Abstract

Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy (DCM) is a progressive disease that represents the leading cause of spinal cord damage in adults. Surgical management has been shown to halt the disease and partially reverse neurological damage. The aim of this study is to present the outcomes of patients operated on for CDM between 2020 and 2023 at Barros Luco Hospital, with a 12-month follow-up involving standardized neurological assessments using the modified Japanese Orthopedic Association scale (mJOA). Follow-up was conducted for 28 patients within the specified time frame. The results showed an average improvement of 3.53 points on the mJOA scale, a value significantly higher than the preoperative baseline. Based on this, we can conclude that surgical management of CDM is safe and effective in stopping disease progression and is capable of reversing damage.
