Abstract

The brain abscess is described as a collection of pus within the cerebral parenchyma that is focalized and encapsulated in its later phase, in stages prior to encapsulation we find a state of inflammation of the cerebral parenchyma known as cerebritis. This pathology has several factors that predispose to have such a disease and may be related to the prognosis. The etiology can vary depending on the patient’s immunological state and according to the clinical scenarios that may be associated with it. The clinic depends on the anatomical area that has been affected, although there is a symptomatic triad that characterizes it is present in less than half of the cases, this allows that it has enough pathologies that are differential diagnosis and that must be taken in account. The diagnosis is clearly imaging, it is clearly explained the different findings that can be found in studieswith and without contrast and it is recommended to always use contrast. Empirical antibiotic treatment has been based on published evidence based on the evidence available until now, but the reader is advised to perform surgical drainage in patients who have criteria and give antibiotic therapy according to the culture report and antibiogram to reduce the risk of bacterial resistance.
