Abstract

Calcified pseudoneoplasia of the neuroaxis (CAPNON) is an unusual lesion occurring anywhere in the central nervous system (CNS). About 100 cases have been described in the literature. They are not associated with characteristic clinical presentation, being its behavior benign. Treatment consists of tumor excision. We present here the case of a 36-year-old male patient with a history of hypoacusis and paresthesias in the right hemicara of 5 years of evolution. Ambulatory MRI showed a calcified tumor lesion in the right cerebellar peduncle. Neurosurgery was performed with total resection of the intraaxial lesion. Biopsy reports calcified spindle cell proliferation compatible with CAPNON. CAPNON is an extremely unusual benign pseudoneoplasm of uncertain origin. CAPNON at the cerebral and spinal level may have an intraaxial or extraaxial location. Of the intracranial lesions, extra-axial lesions are more frequent and are located at the skull base. CAPNON should be considered in the differential diagnosis of calcified lesions.

Key words: calcified pseudoneoplasm of the neuroaxis, CAPNON, lesión beningna, differential diagnoses.
