Abstract

The human cerebral anatomy is of great relevance for the physicians who handle neurological and neurosurgical patients. For centuries its composition has been studied, which has allowed to recognize and identify the alterations in the human body in an effective way starting from the normal physiology and the pathophysiology of the disease. The doctrine of Monro-Kellie refers that the various components found in the intracranial cavity give rise to an intracranial pressure, which could vary according to different situations of life. The abnormal variations of the ICP are mostly due to mass effects caused by the alteration of one of the three intracranial components. It has been observed that the timely recognition of these alterations will be determinant for the prognosis. In addition, the treatment will depend directly on the degree and site of involvement.
